My dad gave me a great allusion years ago that I have never forgotten:
"Lizzie, there is a reason your rear view mirror is much smaller than your windshield. Keep looking forward. Look in your rear view if you must, but don't do stare at it too long or you'll miss what's ahead."
And I might add...not only will we miss what's ahead, we will crash! And admittedly, I HAVE crashed before because I was staring in life's rearview mirror.
Remember these watches? Swatch was the JAM when I was in middle school. We would wear two at a time. And then they came out with Swatch Guards that made sure your swatch watch face wouldn't scratch but they were bright yellow and sometimes made telling accurate time impossible.
But what did we care? We were in middle school in the late 80s! I cared more about getting my song requests on air on Eagle 106 in Philadelphia during a sleepover.
But as a 48 year old with an Apple Watch now...yes. I do care. I don't want anything to interfere with my time. Come to find out, I am the one interfering most with my own time. Wasting it by not moving forward. Looking in the rearview too much. Living in the past.
Allright team: New Year, new you. Right? Let's look ahead with no obstructions and no past mistakes pulling us away. Pinkie swear?
